The author Leonard Hieronymi—together with a friend from his school days, the photographer and analyst Christian Metzler—travels a route more than 2,500 kilometers in nine days through all the states of the Federal Republic of Germany in order to photograph and eat as many Pinocchio ice-cream sundaes as possible. From their artificially created perspective, they see what it is that unifies Germany. They discover how it feels to subordinate self-determined action to an absurd goal whose attainment is clearly impossible right from the start. They become driven persons, encounter old friends and peculiar strangers, first become crazy themselves and then turn crazy for ice cream.
