The Informel had a catalyst-like significance for the development of German art in the immediate postwar years. Apart from Karl Otto Gölz as the central protagonist of the movement, the magazine is devoted to important galleries and art critics who helped the Informel intomaking a breakthrough and becoming a permanent success. As well as the Zimmergalerie Franck, these were in particular the Edition and Galerie Rothe in Frankfurt, which inspired and published the earliest graphic editions of the informal artists, the Galerie Parnass in Wuppertal and Galerie Otto van de Loo in Munich with their ground-breaking exhibitions, and later the Galerie Hennemann in Bonn, which in cooperation with critic Manfred de Lamotte performed a great service in providing the historical documentation of the Informel.
