“The Library of Possible Books” is an artistic research project of the department “Typography and Book Design” at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel. The focus of the investigation is language and its poetic translation into a book body. What can a book be? How can the sound of language be notated, a plot be staged in the space of the book or the mood of a text be transferred to material? Since 2010, students from the courses of Annette le Fort and André Heers, partly in cooperation with colleagues, have developed and designed a collection of book experiments – a constantly growing archive of text bodies that explore the potential space of the book and in the process communicate through the means of book design.
