Art in public space intervenes as a “brightener”, a note and comment in urban living space and thus makes it worth living and experiencing. This publication illustrates the broad spectrum of art projects in Vienna from 2010 to 2013 that have become possible thanks to the initiative of Public Art Vienna. In addition, two essays on the one hand analyze the subjects of “commemorative culture” and the “subway as a site for art”, and on the other hand reflect the documentation of the individual projects, positioning them in a broader context.
