The non-profit Kunstverein Edition VFO, Verein für Originalgraphik (association for original prints) has been publishing printed editions since 1948 in Zurich, especially focussing on the German-speaking part of Switzerland. With the ambition to present an overview of the entire Swiss art scene, Edition VFO decided with a curator from Geneva, Bernard Vienat, to invite a group of artists of different generations with connection to the Romandie for an exhibition, exploring the limits of editions in comparison to unique pieces and focussing on the discussion and critique of the term of originality. The exhibition and accompanying publication show the diversity of media in dealing with prints and multiples. The artistic horizons of different generations, teachings, aesthetic models and, above all, different ways of production come together here. A series of essays by the curators David Khalat and Bernard Vienat as well as two important print scholars Dr. Laurence Schmidlin and Dr. Christian Rümelin show a diverse perspective on print and the questions of originality within contemporary art.
